Position Summary:
This position supports the organization's overall vision of excellence through teamwork, standardization, and engagement. Recommends, consults, supervise and implements, best practices, safety, and excellence in patient/family experience amongst the clinical team.  Engage team members towards continuous quality improvement, professionalism and accountability through interactive communication across all service lines.  Is a liaison and educator between Hawaii Care Choices and community clergy and their organized faith community. Provides oversight for the spiritual counselor and social work disciplines as well as the bereavement program. 

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Team Leadership & Supervision: Oversee spiritual care, social work, and bereavement staff, including scheduling, performance management, and development. Ensure timely completion of initial assessments (within 5 days).
  • Bereavement Program Oversight: Lead, manage, and grow the bereavement program, ensuring services align with organizational goals and meet family and patient needs.
  • Process & Program Improvement: Develop, implement, and communicate procedures to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of services in all areas of responsibility.
  • Culture & Accountability: Foster a positive, accountable team culture focused on continuous learning, reflection, and recognition. Promote service-level team-building and peer evaluations.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Ensure accurate, timely documentation across all services and uphold safety and compliance standards.
  • Direct Service Support: Provide bereavement counseling and participate in memorial services, especially for families without church affiliation. Coordinate bereavement assessments and services for deceased patients’ families.
  • Training & Education: Organize and deliver training sessions for staff, volunteers, community clergy, and healthcare professionals on spirituality, bereavement, and social work topics.
  • Community Engagement: Serve as a liaison with local faith organizations and coordinate community-focused events (e.g., memorials, seasonal gatherings, children’s support groups).

Skill & Knowledge Requirements:
  • Ability to exercise independent sound judgment in decision-making, planning, and provision of quality spiritual care and education.
  • Possession of critical assessment and thinking skills. 
  • Ability to provide unsupervised spiritual services in private residences.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as in cooperation with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to be open, flexible, and ecumenical.
  • Ability to embrace people from different ethnicities, beliefs, and faith traditions.
  • Interest and desire to give hospice care with a special sensitivity to the needs of the dying.
  • Ability to prepare reports, statistics, and educational presentations.
  • Competent with Windows, Microsoft Office and Power Point.

Educational and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelors’ degree or equivalent with experience in / and a desire to provide spiritual care.
  • Adequate educational and experiential levels to meet the needs of the patients, care givers, and regulations established by state and federal laws.
  • Prefer a person with experience providing bereavement and spiritual care in a hospice type setting.
  • Frequent Usage:  Private vehicle, computer/laptop, telephones, and personal cellular phone (cell phone use prohibited while driving).

Hours:
  • Exempt position requires flexibility and may be required to work after-hours, on weekends, and holidays as needed.

Pay Range: $85,000 - $90,000/ annually

*This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, geography, and other relevant factors.
